The Abbeyfield Kent Society is the leading provider of residential care
and sheltered accommodation for 450 older people, in Kent.
The Society owns and manages 10 residential care properties and has sheltered
accommodation in 7 houses throughout Kent. The Society provides older
people with their own home within the security and companionship of small
households, which can become focal points for goodwill and friendly contact
within the community. We are registered to provide physical care
to older people 65+. The Society is not registered for and cannot provide
nursing care.
Four of The Society's residential properties provide specialist accommodation,
care and support to older people living with dementia (65+). The
Society also provides specialist accommodation, care and support to younger
people (40 - 64) living with Dementia*. Also The Society provides
specialist accommodation, care and support to people living with Parkinson's
Disease at another of its homes.
*At one of our homes.
The Abbeyfield Kent Society also owns and manages 7 sheltered accommodation
properties, houses, providing accommodation for 38 older people who require
less support. We do not provide personal care (such as help with
dressing or washing) or nursing care (other than in emergencies and during
short-term illnesses) Sheltered accommodation offers mainly single bed-sitting
rooms, with toilet and bath/shower. There is a housekeeper, who provides
two meals a day and cleans the common parts of the house. Residents are
responsible for the cleaning of their rooms. All these houses are connected
to Medway Lifeline 24 hours a day.
All our homes lay great emphasis on the spiritual and socialisation needs
of our residents.
The Abbeyfield Kent
Society is a Christian charity founded in 1967 providing residential care
and supported housing for older people in its 16 homes across Kent. After
substantial expansion in January 2000, when it purchased nine Kent County
Council care homes, the Society grew from an approximate annual turnover
of £1/2 million to its current position of approaching £10
million. The Society is now the largest provider of residential care for
older people in Kent and one of the biggest charities in the County employing
approximately 600 staff along with 150 volunteers.
The Abbeyfield
Kent Society is part of a national association of Abbeyfield societies.
The Abbeyfield movement was founded as an expression of Christian concern
for older people, a co-operative effort by people of faith and goodwill,
a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.
